About Steve

Steve Harshman is a Wyoming native, longtime teacher and coach, and proven public servant who has spent his life investing in Wyoming kids. Born in Casper and rooted in central Wyoming, Steve built his career in the classroom, on the field, and in the communities he has served for decades.

He and his wife Becky, also a teacher, raised their four children in Wyoming.

While at Natrona County High School, he became known not just as a coach and teacher, but as someone who believes every student matters and every young person deserves the chance to succeed.

That same commitment carried into public service. In the Wyoming Legislature, Steve was one of the state’s clearest voices on education and opportunity. He was the principal author and played a pivotal role in establishing the Hathaway Scholarship and later helped advance scholarship efforts tied to Wyoming’s Tomorrow scholarship, always with a focus on opening doors for Wyoming students and strengthening the state’s future workforce.

Steve believes Wyoming’s schools are the heart of Wyoming communities.

He believes strong families, respected teachers, local school boards, and practical Wyoming solutions are what keep schools strong. His focus is simple: support students, honor the full education team, strengthen reading and career readiness, and make sure Wyoming kids have the skills and opportunity to build their futures right here at home.

For Steve, education has never been an abstract issue or a political talking point. It has been his life’s work. He has spent decades helping young people cross the finish line, and he believes Wyoming’s best days depend on continuing to invest in the next generation with steady leadership, local control, and a clear focus on kids.
